My little one has decided she doesn't believe in naps. This equates to one tired mama! At any rate, today was a nice day. Emma and I went to Barnes and Noble to pick up a few books for her. I was so very excited to find a copy of the same nursery rhyme book I had as a child - now Emma has her very own copy. We also bought a very cute board book with lots of textures for her to investigate. I also did a little bit of online shopping...I ordered some language flash cards for her, as well as a new toy. I'm very excited about the flash cards. We can add these to our daily routine. She won't pick anything up for a while, but it never hurts to start early. We're also starting baby sign language. Today I used the signs for 'milk' and 'sleep'. Again, it'll take a while before she really starts using the signs, but it's good to start early. She'll probably know what the signs mean before she uses them. Anyone else tried this? Any advice? I went to the American Sign Language website and they have a great video library of signs. There's even a section called "Baby ASL" which shows the most commonly used signs for babies. Very awesome! The best part of this (so far) is that it's free to teach her. No supplies needed. As she gets older, we'll probably incorporate other elements such as flash cards for signing. Luckily, those are available for free! All you have to do is print them out. Very awesome! If you have experience with sign language for babies or if you have a question, don't hesitate to let me know!
