Five Tips for the New Military Spouse
Heather Hawkins on June 13, 2012
This is a general list of things I wish I’d known!
Becoming a military spouse is fun and exciting, however, there will be hard times. To successfully get through those times I recommend the following:
1) Have and build a support network of family and friends! You will need someone to talk to!
2) Learn about resources on base – Where’s the housing office? Who can fix this month’s pay glitch? Where can I get my taxes done free? These things can generally be done on base!
3) Education – research education assistance. As a military spouse, you may be eligible!
4) Spend wisely and save money – Saving money is very important. Set up savings, money market, cd’s and any other savings instruments you can. Don’t live paycheck to paycheck if you don’t have to!
5) Military discounts – Always ask about military discounts! You’ll be surprised how many places offer 10% off (or more!).
