Motherhood is the most amazing adventure. The most joyous occasions happen before your eyes, as your babies grow and learn. The love for your children is the most pure, unconditional love you'll ever know. After all, the bond you share with your children is matched by none. How could it be? You knew your babies first, as they grew inside you. Your babies heard your heartbeat in a way no one else has. Through feeling them move inside you, whether they were kicking or hiccuping, you got to know your babies' personality even before you saw them smile. The whole thing is nothing short of miraculous.
As I said, motherhood is awesome. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Part of this experience, however, includes sleepless nights and stressful days. One child crying and the other is screaming...and you just want a shower. Actually, everyone does. When you finally get to take a shower, there will be an audience and they'll possibly be crying. You are famished, but everyone else needs to eat first. You're shaky with hypoglycemia, barely managing to make sandwiches without cutting a finger off. You need to use the restroom, when you get a chance. Three hours later, you finally get to, followed by or possibly holding at least one child. These are the things that can only be the norm for moms.
Privacy isn't always possible, and neither is peace and quiet. Some days leave you feeling overstimulated and craving "alone time". Sometimes, you miss the way things were before, when there wasn't a child constantly attached to you. Do you want to hear something outrageous? When I asked God for patience this morning, I also thanked him. My babies are blessings. Yes, I feel like a crazy person sometimes, but I get a lot in return for the tough times. I get to watch these little humans become bigger humans. Their personalities unfold a little more every day, and I get to be there.
There is nothing that compares to my babies, and I think most moms agree. There's no car I'd rather have, no place I'd rather vacation to. Don't get me wrong, a little "me" time and some hobbies are a healthy necessity, but I wouldn't change a thing in the long run. Some days are rough, but every day with my little ones is special.
