I don't know about you, but I can only do so many traditional holiday meals before I want something different. No offense to the usual turkey and/or ham - I'm a fan of both - but I'm feeling a little burnt out. We had ham a LOT growing up - it was one of my granddad's favorite foods ever, so I got burnt out on that a looong time ago. This year, I decided to do something atypical for Christmas dinner. Yes, I have decided on a theme and the list is made!!!
I've never spent much time wondering what the people of Bethlehem ate in the days of Jesus, but a quick Google search produced some interesting results. Lamb was among the meats (which is something we really like), as well as fresh vegetables, fruits, hummus and breads. Honestly, this sounds a little like the Mediterranean food we love so much. Sooo I kinda merged those two together and came up with the following (click for recipes!):
- Oven-Roasted Lamb Kebobs with Tzatziki Sauce
- Hummus & Pita Chips (not sure if I'm buying or making)
- Steamed Kale
- Greek salad (I'll have to take out the onions and olives for the hubby)
I also decided to throw in something extra random, but it's also a great reminder of our home state, Louisiana:
- Crawfish Pie
And for dessert, I found the following recipes:
- Cranberry Eggnog Cornbread Scones
- Mint Chocolate Fudge
So, as you can see, I did a little scavenging to come up with this year's Christmas dinner! I'm super excited to try something out of the ordinary. Plus, it's just Caleb, Emma and I - this should make the perfect amount of food for our Christmas dinner :)
What are you cooking for Christmas dinner? Anyone do anything non-traditional? Leave your comments below :)
Until next time,
